We’re on a budget in my house. Always. With six mouths to feed, 2 dogs, a cat, a bird and a fish, every penny saved makes a difference. So I thought I’d try out some charcoal I found at Sam’s Club. It was less than $10 for a 20 lb. bag which was nearly $15 cheaper than another popular name brand I’ve used.
So the first time we tried it out was on a Sunday for mother day lunch prepared by my wonderful hubby. We were all hungry but he insisted that he would do the cooking. After nearly 10 minutes of trying to get it to light he decided to just fry the hamburgers because “something must be wrong with that dumb charcoal”. We had a nice lunch. He was so sweet to cook it.
We were all full and laid down to take a Sunday nap. When we got up from the nap he went outside to mess with that grill again and it just so happened that the fire was blazing and the temperature was super hot. Hmmmm. So, we figured we’d try it again a few nights later. This time we patiently waited for the charcoal to get started and once it got going good we were pleasantly surprised. It’s slow to start but boy it can get hot! So hot it burned a hole through his sock.
I think as long as you’re willing to be patient and you can get the temperature good and regulated then it’s a pretty decent charcoal, especially for the price. We’ll definitely be buying it in the future.
